Although there have been numerous attempts to integrate BIM and 3D GIS on a single web platform, the outcome of those attempts are not so satisfactory to date. The difference of data models, the massive number of objects to be rendered, the big volume of data files, and proprietary technologies are among the major barriers that hindered seamless integration of BIM and 3D GIS on a web environment. This session introduces 'mago3D', an open source based GeoBIM platform that can manage, handle, and visualize massive 3D data from BIM and 3D GIS simultaneously on a web browser. It has been developed on top of well-known open sources such as Cesium or NASA World Wind to make the best of the existing features and to expand the functionalities to BIM and AEC areas. A new 3D web service format called F4D has been devised to optimize the network traffic, to reduce the file size, and to increase the rendering speed. Industry standard formats such as 3DS, OBJ, DAE, IFC, and JT can be converted to F4D format using the format converter. As a result, the developed platform now can service successfully millions of 3D objects in a web browser on any kinds of devices such as smart phones, tablets, laptops and PCs.
